About

I’ve built my practice with a client-focused philosophy utilizing a strengths-based, short-term solution-focused approach. When addictive behaviors are identified, I employ a Stages of Change Model along with Motivational Interviewing as an effective course of treatment. Both adolescents (13 years of age and older) and adults are seen at Shaw Counseling Services. As a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, I have extensive experience working with individuals who are struggling with anxiety, depression, feelings of helplessness and hopelessness, and need additional tools to cope with daily stressors and overwhelming thoughts or feelings. In the fast-paced world we live in, we are constantly facing heightened feelings of stress that can be caused by workplace, parenting, family, couple or other relationship conflicts. Unfortunately, for many, alcohol or drugs is used to “manage” difficult times. It is my goal to help clients navigate their most complex feelings and to provide the tools and skills needed to help them thrive.

When you choose to seek help with Shaw Counseling Services, support is provided to identify and learn new coping skills, develop insight into personal unhealthy behaviors that may contribute to current difficulties, and to increase awareness of other community resources that may be helpful in achieving a healthier and happier “journey” through life.

About half of all Americans who have a problem with alcohol or drugs also have a mental disorder. People with mental disorders are more likely to have a substance use disorder than people who do not have a mental disorder. - SAMHSA’s Center for Substance Abuse Treatment . (2004)
